Overview

Mardi Himal Trek is a short but wonderful trekking route in Annapurna region , Nepal .This trekking route gives plenty of joy and scenic mountain view from beginning to end of the day. Annapurna south ,Himchuli and Mt,Fishtail are dominating the circumstances around us ,most of the time we need to walk inside forest during this time the mountain will play hide and seek game with us . The maximum altitude we gain is 4500 M ,Mardi Himal Base camp .

Itinerary Overview

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu.

Day 02 : Preparation Day

Day 03: Fly to Pokhara -Drive to Kande -Trek to Deurali 2200 M

Day 04: Forest Camp 2600 M .5 hour gentle up and downs .

Day 05: Badal Danda 3200 Meter .

Day 06 :High Camp 3540 M

Day 07: View Point 4200 M -Mardi Himal Base Camp 4445 M and Trek Down to Badal Danda .

Day 08 : Trek Down To Kalimati . Overnight at Mardi Himal Eco Village lodge .

Day 09 : Drive to Pokhara . Overnight at Pokhara .

Day 10 : Fly to Kathmandu .

Detail Itinerary

You will land in Tribhuvan International airport at the altitude of 1400 M just before 5 mins of landing time you will encounter a magical mountain view on your right side. Our representative will wait in the arrival zone with your name board. Thamel (tourist place) is just 7 KM away from the airport ,takes 25 min drive to reach in normal time . During office time, sometimes it takes 1 hour as well. Overnight at Kathmandu Hotel.

It's a warm up day for trekking . Since you travel a long journey ,you need some rest and adjust your body with different altitudes and different time zones . We can start our day on these days but there will be higher chances of getting sick so we recommend having one day in Kathmandu. We will check our check list for things to take to the mountain and will have an easy tour around Kathmandu valley (Swayambhunath Stupa ) . Pre - Departure meeting will be held in the evening before dinner . Overnight at Kathmandu

After having breakfast at the hotel , we will transfer to Domestic airport to fly to Pokhara. It's just a 25 min flight which gives you plenty of mountain views from the right side of the aircraft . Pokhara is the most beautiful city in Nepal from where you can see mountains from any point of the city . After landing at Pokhara airport (900 m ) we will drive to the hotel where we are going to spend a night after the trek . Will have tea then drive to Kande . Kande is just 30 KM away and a 1 and half hour drive takes us to Kande . From Kande 1 hour uphill trek and some easy steps takes us to Australian Camp where we are going to have lunch . After lunch we will proceed to Deurali . Overnight at Deurali 2200M

After breakfast we will move to a forest camp . Most of the time we will walk through the forest . After 30 minutes walking we will see the top of Dhaulagiri mountain .While walking through the forest we may encounter some wild animals like deer and red panda as well. Before there was only one tea spot but now we have lots of options in between for food and drinks as well . Overnight at Lodge .

Trek Duration: 5-6Hour

Leaving Forest camp , the trail is gentle uphill and passing through forest and 30 minute walking takes you to the rest camp from where you can see mt. Fishtail . We will have tea if we are interested, otherwise we keep moving towards a low camp, our lunch place where we will have some magical mountain view as well . Right after lunch , straight up the hill takes you one lodge from where you can see badal danda ,which literally means cloudy hill . 10 min downhill and 20 min uphill takes you to the Badal danda . Overnight at Lodge

Trek Duration: 5 Hour

The trails of Badal Danda in dense forest , but as we are above 3500 M the plants soon start to get smaller ,and after approximately one hours walking we break out onto the open rodge . Once we reach , we will encounter majestic views of Machhapuchhre ahead,and Annapurna South to the left.If we look down right ,we can see the Mardi Khola River winding its way through the Valley . After 3 hours we arrived at High Camp . If the weather is good , we will have a wonderful sunset view . Overnight at Lodge .

Trek Duration: 3 Hour

We have an early breakfast and start climbing to reach High View point or for the energetic,Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4450 M . There will be time to explore or just gaze at the peaks from these high vantage points . If the weather is clear, the views will be stunning . In the early afternoon,we return to High Camp ,have lunch ,pack up and descend to Badal Danda . As the day closes,the setting sun turns the hills and mountains of the himalaya pink ,then red and finally purple before the stars take over,and we settle in for an early night .

After have a breakfast ,we trek down to forest camp have lunch then 2 hour walking down takes us Kalimati from where we can see valley to south and north can see mountain .

Highest Altitude: 3200m
Trek Duration: 6 hour

A 1 hour unpaved and 1 hour paved road drive takes you to Pokhara .Then after you will have free time around Pokhara , you can explore yourself .If you need our help , we are always eager to organize a tour . Evening culture dinner will be offered by a company where you will know about some cultural shows there

You will have free time here for refreshment . Evening farewell dinner will be set by the company with your guide.

It's the day to leave Kathmandu but not the memory of Nepal . We will transfer you to the airport three and half hours from Hotel .

Cost is always depending on how you want to do and which way you want to go. Obviously taking local bus, carrying your goods by yourself and exploring yourself is the cheaper way you can do in this trek however walking alone (without guide ) is unacceptable. Note that this is new rule in Nepal.

If you take flight for both way and take guide with porter ,cost will go higher.

If you have proper trekking equipment, a well scheduled itinerary, well experience guide, you can reach mardi himal base camp in very easy way. Note that altitude and weather is key factor in mountain however we are not climbing in one day. Step by Step and Slowly-Slowly you can enjoy steep ascends and descends through rocky, Rooty and stone steps very safely. We will walk 6 to 7 hour in an average to complete approximately 45 KM distance.

We recommend for physical training at home.

Definitely, local people know about landscape and weather nature better than overseas agent. The most important thing is safety, so remember that local could handle very well in worst situation. Secondly, you can save your money and your money will go directly to local people.

High Camp ;3900m is the highest sleeping point however we will reach till Mardi Himal Base Camp,4500M.

In Mardi Himal Trekking temperature reaches up to 15-20 degree Celsius during a day in very sunny day while can drop down to -5 degree Celsius during night in normal night.

Note:-Please be preparing for any kind of weather situation.

Mardi Himal trekking is a teahouse trek .Meanwhile we also can manage tent near to tea  house however your food will be served in lodge itself.

Note :-Tent cost is always go with you.

Spring water directly from source, water melted from ice during winter, boiled water and mineral water bottle is available in this route. If you want to use tap water, you can drink with proper tablet however we recommend using water bottle for more safety .Remember that water is also one factor for getting sick in mountain. Nepali can drink tap water but we don’t recommend you to do so for you.

Note:-Warm water can save your throat in high mountain.

Mardi Himal trail is walking in side forest and ridge of the hill so definitely we will have less risk of landslide .You need to be extra careful inside forest to avoid hit by branch of tree in windy weather. Rainy and Snowing time you need to be careful after Badal Danda, it could be slippery .Crampon is indeed during snowing time.

The best way to prevent getting altitude sickness is to travel to altitudes above 2,500M slowly. It usually takes a few days for your body to get used t a change in altitude.

Here is list to prevent HAS:-

  • If possible, avoid flying directly to area of high altitude.
  • Climb less or 500 m in a day after 3000m.
  • Don’t let your mouth to be dry.
  • Stay far away with smoking and drinking alcohol
  • Eat a light but high-calorie diet
  • Every  1000m climb need rest for acclimatization after 3000M is recommended.

Acetazolamide(and be careful with allergic )to prevent and treat high-altitude sickness

 

At last but important is “Don’t hide your problem with your guide and friend”

Yes ,it is possible with a child as well. Many families have taken their child to Mardi Himal Base Camp. But you should be sure that your child can properly express himself in the case of high altitude sicknes and other problems. If you take enough rest days, bringing your child to Mardi Himal is a fine idea as there are many things to explore and see including snow-clad mountains and the Himalayan wildlife.

Yes, there is electricity. Lower altitude they have hydroelectricity and upper altitude Solar power to charge your accessories though they will charge money for it.

Yes, internet is available in Mardi Himal trekking route .Along with WIFI, you can get mobile network and can use data as well though mobile network is not strong in bad weather and night time.

It takes around 11 days including Kathmandu and Pokhara

Solo trekking is not allowed now .Because of many life lose in the mountain during solo trekking ,Nepal Government policy has made it compulsory that all trekkers must be accompanied by a guide for most of the trekking area.

March –April and October –November is the best season however this trek can be done in February ,June,April,May and December as well

In trekking trail, you won’t able to use your credit cards but city like Pokhara and Kathmandu ;you can use your credit card. Some time you need to let your bank that you are travelling.

When you are in mountain; on the menu, you may find noodles soup, steam mo: mo, daal bhat, green salad, finger chips, eggs, potatoes, fresh vegetables. You can get tea, coffee, hot lemon, hot chocolate. Everyday breakfast, lunch, dinner will be at a lodge. Note that most of lodge and place they do have same item and cost varies according to altitude .And city you have huge choice of food.

Lodges mostly serve vegetarian meals so there is no problem at all for vegetarian. Also, we always recommend our clients to eat vegetarian meals to avoid food poisoning. Non-veg meals at a high altitude are not safe for the stomach.

Hot water in the bucket will be provided for the shower and you have to pay for hot water.
